Use elements of design (line, shape, form, texture, value, and color) to develop skills in the creation of visual composition and improve visual perception.

Concepts and Applications:

Students create original works of art using a variety of 2 and/or 3 dimensional media that...

1.1 Line: demonstrate the use of different kinds and qualities of line to create motion, the illusion of depth and the suggestion of volume

1.2 Shape and Form: use organic and geometric shapes and form to create natural and abstract designs.

1.3 Space: demonstrate an understanding of perspective.

1.4 Value: use at least 4 values of light and dark to represent solid objects and to create an illusion of shape.

1.5 Texture: use a variety of textures.

1.6 Color: demonstrate an understanding of color theory and how warm/cool, complementary, analogous and teritary colors create mood and feelings.

Understand and use the principles of design (movement, pattern/repetition, balance, contrast, emphasis and unity) to create visually pleasing compositions and improve skills in visual perceptition.

Concepts and Applications:

Students create original works of art using a variety of 2 and/or 3 dimensional media that...

2.1 Movement: use line, form and color to create a visual path on a picture surface and/or sculptural form.

2.2 Pattern/Repetition: use repetition/pattern.

2.3 Balance: demonstrate an understanding of positive and negative shape/form.

2.4 Contrast: use contrast to create variety and uniqueness.

2.5 Emphasis: emphasis one dominant element of art.

2.6 Unity: selectively use different art elements to create unity.

2.7 Visual Perception: use subjects, themes and symbols that communicate intended meaning in their work.
